Quebec takes two on Day 1 at the Women’s National Championship Festival

Team Quebec won a pair of games on Friday at the Women’s National Championship Festival at the Richmond Olympic Oval in Richmond, B.C.

Quebec, the 2019 Women’s National Champions, opened the tournament with a 62-44 win over a team of mixed athletes from Ontario, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.

Led by Paralympians Cindy Ouellet, Elodie Tessier, and Sandrine Berube, Quebec capped Friday’s action with a 63-37 win over the host, Team B.C.

B.C. erased a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat the team of mixed athletes 52-46.

Action resumes on Saturday as Quebec will face the team featuring the top female athletes from Ontario, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, and Alberta at 9 a.m. PT. The team of mixed athletes will then play Team B.C. at 12 p.m. PT, and B.C. will tip-off against Quebec to conclude the day’s 5-on-5 action.

Saturday will also see the first 3-on-3 recreational competition in tournament history.

The 5-on-5 games will be live-streamed on BC Wheelchair Basketball Society’s Facebook page.

The event is governed by Wheelchair Basketball Canada (WBC) and presented by the BC Wheelchair Basketball Society (BCWBS).
