Team Canada to tip-off at IWBF Americas Cup in July

The action begins Wednesday, July 13 in São Paulo, Brazil

Team Canada’s men’s and women’s Wheelchair Basketball teams will tip-off at the IWBF Americas Cup in São Paulo, Brazil, beginning Wednesday, July 13, at the Brazilian Paralympic Training Site.

The Americas Cup will serve as the qualifier for the IWBF World Championships in November (Nov. 16-27, 2022) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The top three women’s teams and the top four men’s teams will earn the right to represent the IWBF Americas in Dubai.

“The Americas Cup is an opportunity for our men’s and women’s program to display the hard work they’ve put in during training over the past six months,” said Jeff Dunbrack, High Performance Director, Wheelchair Basketball Canada. “Both our teams are prepared to compete against the best in the world and earn qualification spots for November’s World Championships.”

The women’s team will play in Group B with Brazil, Bolivia, and Guatemala. Team Canada tips off at 9:15 a.m. ET on July 13 against Guatemala. The women then face Bolivia at 7:00 a.m. ET on July 14 before wrapping up the preliminary round against Brazil at 2:00 p.m. ET on July 15.

Team Canada will play in Group B with Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico on the men’s side. Canada opens the tournament against Argentina on July 13 at 8:00 a.m. ET. The men then face Mexico on July 14 at 12:30 p.m. ET before concluding the preliminary round against Brazil on July 15 at 4:00 p.m. ET.

The playoff round begins at 9:15 a.m. ET on Saturday, July 16.
