Ontario 2 defeated Ontario 1 12-9 in Sunday’s gold medal game
(MONTREAL, QUE.) – Team Ontario 2 defeated Team Ontario 1 12-9 to win gold at the 2024 Junior East Championship on Sunday afternoon at the Centre Pierre-Charbonneau in Montreal.
Ibrahim Odza, Division 1 MVP, paced Team Ontario 2 with seven points, while Nasif Chowdhury led Team Ontario 1 with five points in capturing silver.
“I think we played really well as a team. The stuff we were working on in practice leading up to this event was all implemented by our players, and we’re very proud of our groups,” said Team Ontario 2 head coach Josh Davies. “We’ve come a long way, and we’re still working together and working hard towards the Canada Games. We are excited for the future.”
Anne-Marie Giguère’s seven points in the third-place game led Team Quebec 2 to a 13-7 bronze medal victory over Team New Brunswick 1. Logan Aalders, a Division 1 all-star, was Team New Brunswick 1’s top scorer with six points. Aalders had a tournament-leading 49 points overall.
Nine teams from Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick competed at the Junior East Championship at the Centre Pierre-Charbonneau in Montreal. The 3×3 event, governed by Wheelchair Basketball Canada (WBC) and presented by Parasports Quebec, is the first competition in the Canada Games cycle. The 2027 Canada Winter Games will take place in Quebec City (Feb. 26-March 15, 2027).
