The Quaranteam Movement Goes Above and Beyond for Canada’s Wheelchair Basketball Teams

(Ottawa, Ont.) The results are in and the community has gone above and beyond to support Canadian athletes as part of Wheelchair Basketball Canada’s Quaranteam Run, Walk, Wheel and Skate fundraiser.

To mark what would have been the start of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, WBC challenged Canadians to move 2,020km in support of Canada’s national wheelchair basketball teams and their extended quest for the podium now taking place next summer.

In the end, more than 100 participants travelled 2,746km and raised $3,500 in support of Canada’s wheelchair basketball teams. We did it and we couldn’t have done it without you!

“To our Quaranteam, we thank you! When we imagined this event, we didn’t foresee just how much this amazing community would embrace the Quaranteam Movement and make it their own. Over the past few days, you have shared your journeys from the trails, mountains, race tracks, lakes/rivers, golf courses and neighbourhoods from across Canada and beyond,” said Shelley Levoy, Manager of Fundraising and Events at Wheelchair Basketball Canada.

“You reminded us of the beauty of getting outside and working together as one team to reach a common goal, all while being champions of True Sport along your routes. In these difficult and uncertain times, we could not be more inspired by your passion and commitment, and we are incredibly grateful for your support as we navigate the road ahead.”

WBC wishes a special thank you to Grosso Hooper Law, SIRC and True Sport for rallying behind Team Canada as part of the Quaranteam.

Team Canada athletes were also well represented as they logged kilometres over the weekend, led by Quaranteam ambassadors Patrick Anderson and Tara Llanes.
